About Us
Fr. Liborio Manuel Tavares Amaral (Pastor):

Fr. Liborio Manuel Tavares Amaral

Fr. Liborio was born in 1963 at San Miguel, Azores, Portugal (i.e. San Miguel is the largest of 9 islands in the mid-Atlantic ocean). In the winter of 1969 he immigrated to Canada with his parents and two sisters. After a few months in Toronto, the Amaral family moved to Brampton where they have lived ever since. Fr. Liborio’s parents, Joe and Maria da Gloria, have been members of St. Mary’s parish since arriving in Brampton (i.e. his father Joe, was the custodian of St. John Fishers for many years before retiring). Fr. Liborio has two sisters and a younger brother; his two sisters are Catholic school teachers and his brother is catholic school principal – all work in the area. Fr. Liborio attended Sheridan College for two years (i.e. Architectural Drafting diploma). He then attended York University for three years (BA in Religious studies). After years of discernment, Fr. Liborio entered St. Augustine’s seminary, in Scarborough, in 1987. He was ordained to the Priesthood in 1992. Fr. Liborio’s first placement was St. Peter’s church in Woodbridge as an associate (1992 – 1995). He then moved to S. Salvador do Mundo/ Cristo Rei in Mississauga as an Associate (1995 – 1998). Fr. Liborio was named pastor of St. Elizabeth Seton in Newmarket and remained there till 2004. In 2004 Cardinal Ambrozic asked Fr. Liborio to enter the ministry of Vocation work. Fr. Liborio remained the Archdiocesan Vocations director till July of 2009. He was given a six month sabbatical (i.e. attended a three month program in Rome) and was named pastor of St. Mary’s parish in January of 2010. He is very happy to be pastor of his home parish – his parents are now his parishioners and live near by. An added blessing is the presence of his Uncle and Godfather, Fr. Liborio Tavares, who lives at St. Mary’s senior's residence next door.
Fr. Ricardo Quinones (Associate Pastor):

Fr. Ricardo Quinones

Fr. Ricardo was born in city of Asunción (i.e. the capital), Paraguay in 1969. He was raised in a traditional catholic family. He is the fourth of five brothers and one sister. He finishes high school and then attended university and received a degree in Agricultural engineering, specializing in bee keeping. After university, Fr. Ricardo worked as a high school teacher for two years. He joined the neo-cathecumenal community and received his calling from the Lord to the priesthood. Fr. He studied philosophy at Saint Philip Nery Oratory in Toronto, and later finished his theological studies at the Toronto School of theology. Fr. Ricardo was ordained on May 9, 2009. His first appointment to work in a Parish is Saint Mary of Brampton
Fr. Liborio Jacinto Cunha Tavares (Retired Priest):
Fr. Liborio Tavares was born in 1933 at San Miguel, Azores, Portugal (i.e. San Miguel is the largest of 9 islands in the mid-Atlantic ocean). He is the oldest of seven siblings, of which six are still alive. As was the custom at the time, Fr. Liborio entered the local diocesan Seminary at a young age of 11. On June 15th, 1958, Fr. Liborio Tavares was ordained to the Priesthood in the island of Terceira, Azores (the diocesan seminary was located in this island). He celebrated his “first mass of thanksgiving” in the midst of his family and friends on June 29th, 1958 in the parish of Senhor do Bom Jesus, Rabo de Peixe. He was assigned to a number of parishes on the island of San Miguel and also ministered as a military chaplaincy. Fr. Liborio was given permission to immiigrate to Canada in 1972. He is incardinated in the Archdiocese of Toronto and was the first Portuguse to be given the title of “pastor”. He served the Archdiocese in a number of parish, including, St. Helens. He retired from St. Mary’s parish in Toronto after being pastor of that community for over 25 years. Fr. Liborio now resides at St. Mary’s senior’s residence next to our church. He has become a great help at St. Mary’s, by supporting our priests in their ministerial work. Some would say that his life has come full circle; his pastor (Fr. Liborio Amaral) is his nephew and Godson – God indeed works in mysterious ways
